Dils Cemetery in Pikeville, Kentucky, is the final resting place of several members of the McCoy family, central figures in the infamous Hatfield-McCoy feud. Here, under the shade of old trees and overlooking the town below, you will find the graves of Randall McCoy—patriarch of the McCoy clan—his wife Sarah, their daughter Roseanna, and son Sam, along with Sam’s wife Martha.
The cemetery offers a place of quiet reflection on the legacy of the McCoys, whose bitter feud with the Hatfields became one of the most notorious family conflicts in American history. Standing among these headstones, one can imagine the turbulent times they lived through and the profound loss that marked their lives.
Unlike the violence and turmoil that characterized their lives, the graves at Dils Cemetery tell a different story—one of peace and finality. Here, the McCoys are united in rest, their lives and legacies intertwined with the history of Eastern Kentucky and the ongoing efforts to preserve and remember this unique cultural heritage.
Dils Cemetery remains open to visitors year-round during daylight hours, inviting guests to pause and consider the people behind the names on the stones and the complex history they represent.
